In June 2019, a @ras_korea member alerted fellow Korean #urbexers of the impending demolition of a 1930s Japanese-style house in Huam-dong, Seoul. Letters, magazines, books and other personal effects dating back to the Korean War, lay scattered about as demolition workers prepped for demolition. We spent hours learning about the former residents, which inspired me to nickname this place “Roy’s House”, in honor of the former head of the household. #orphanedart is always a treat to find when exploring. It’s up there with finding family photos, yearbooks, and graduation certificates. Perhaps the most dramatic example of abandoned art I encountered, were the abandoned gods at Waterfll Bay Park in Hong Kong. The site is the permanent home for Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindi gods that have outlived their use. Trashing a statue is not good luck, most of these statues arrived here after their owners passed away. Volunteers take care of the area. Cementing the statues in place, facing the sea.
