Demolished Apartment Complexes 2016-2019

I present a compilation of photos taken from demolished apartment complexes from 2016-2019 that haven’t been included in blog posts before.

The sight of seeing empty, seemingly endless apartment buildings is an absurd scene to take in. Taking pictures of row after row of identical-looking structures is mesmerizing and worthy of documenting before the razing and newer, fancier apartments replace them.

I am not as a patient searching for artifacts in these complexes as when I am exploring a neighborhood full of single-family residences. I am bored by the repetition of spaces, and frankly speaking, most are empty by the time I discover an apartment complex meeting its end. I haven’t had much luck coming across interesting stuff when exploring apartment complexes. What I have seen that is noteworthy, I include in this post.

Despite a lack of significant artifacts, I will continue to find cracks in the high steel fencing and document these complexes before they are gone. You never know what you will come across on an exploration. Each site is a new adventure with different outcomes.

Gaepo Halla Apartments

I got up super early to explore this apartment complex on a Sunday morning. There are a few personal mementos, but the highlights are the red Xs and the rusty knife.

Jugong Apartments, Gangdong-gu

I visited this place twice. Once before the installation of the walls and another time after. The best find here was the blackfaced Mickey.

Gaepo-dong Jugong Apartments

Didn’t stay too long here as there was operational security patrolling the area. I got what I needed and left.

Jugong Apartments, Gwangju

It looks bleaker in black and white, right? This apartment complex was visited my final weekend living in Gwangju in 2018. The highlight was finding a ball crawl with shards of glass as if the previous owners set it up to hurt a couple of urban explorers that wander into their premises.
